Managing Project

Learning Goal: I’m working on a management presentation and need guidance to help me learn.

Scenario

Loganville Medical Center is the largest healthcare facility in the southern region of the United States. With a 2,500-bed count, the medical center sees 800,000 900,000 patients in a year. Their specialties include cancer, urology, cardiology, neurology, maternal care, and chronic disease as well as the more routine family medicine and senior care. Loganville Medical Center also has a staff of 5,000 and 20 operating rooms.

Because of its size, the Loganville Medical Centers governing board found it difficult to keep up with the medical changes and necessary projects that were occurring at the medical facility and decided to hire a project manager. The human resources department listed the position on the medical facilitys website and you applied. Shortly afterwards, you were chosen as Loganville Medical Centers new project manager due to your extensive experience in project management and health information management.

Juggling the many projects of the medical center is no easy task. However, you effectively manage each project to completion and have gained the admiration of the medical centers governing board as well as other healthcare facilities in the state. Mildred Smith, the president of the states health information management association, has heard about your success.
