ECON2 Wendy McElroy’s article responses

Learning Goal: I’m working on a english writing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Please post on Wendy McElroy’s article. This is an article that always gets students talking in class because it pushes so many peoples’ buttons. I’d love for us to get a feel for discussion by posting. Consider the following questions: Do you think that the couple is making the “wrong” choice by trying to make their children deaf? How much should the government be involved with a couples’ decision-making process? If the couple wanted a Democrat or a Republican, or a red head, we would all probably agree that they should have the right to decide (even if we personally would make a different choice). At what point can and should the government step in and determine our reproductive choices? Or is this just one example of the system working, even if we disagree with trying to pass deafness along to a child? How does it affect your opinion of the couple in McElroy’s article when you learn that their son had partial hearing and they chose not to have his natural hearing enhanced with hearing aids? Where do children’s rights begin and parents’ rights end?
