On Page Two: List & discuss some of the contrasting issues regarding Relativism vs Objectivism.
- Cite specific contrasting examples from at least two of the authors listed below.
- Aquinas & Pojman are arguing for some form of objectivism. Herodotus & Benedict are supporting some form of cultural relativism.
- Is Herodotus right in accepting Pindar’s view that custom is king in being the final court of appeal in determining right/wrong conduct. Expain.
- Discuss Thomas Aquinas’ view that natural laws discovered by reason are universal in their application as rules for the common good.
- Ruth Benedict argues that moral relativism depends on the particular culture and context in which we find ourselves. She offers some very compelling examples to support her thesis. Discuss and assess two of them.
- Louis Pojman argues in favor of moral objectivism and offers a number criticisms regarding ethical relativism including subjectivism and cultural relativism. What do you think of his conclusion on p.51 in the last paragraph; “In conclusion I have argued”.
