Designing an Effective English Curriculum for Adult L1 Spanish Speakers

 

Your group is teaching a group of 15 adult L1 Spanish speakers with high-elementary level English at a local community college in a six-week intensive English workshop on a Saturday. This group is 80% female, 20% male. You and your fellow ESL teachers wonder how to create a curriculum that will specifically serve the needs of your learners. Given what we have read this week, what do you do?
Please discuss among the members of your local community college teams (HCC or CCBC) the tools you will draw upon as you create this curriculum. How might you meet the specific needs of these learners, keeping in mind the gender balance and language of the class.
