Working in the acute care setting in the past,

Working in the acute care setting in the past, acute care is the direction I look to take in my Practitioner career. Emergency situations and on the feet, thinking has kept my passion for acute care alive and well. One of the largest challenges of acute nursing comes down to the ability of identifying a problem before it worsens. Patients are arriving in an acute setting unstable, and it is our job to identify, address and act on the issue (Newcombe et al., 2021). Majority of providers prefer to work closely with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants because of the close patient interaction they have daily in addition to the bed-side experience (Kleinpell et al., 2013).

Although such a broad specialty due to the vast avenues acute care can lead to, finding a peer-reviewed article can sometimes prove to be challenging. Because the internet is a very opinionated medium of expression, it becomes challenging to decipher at times between one’s subjective article versus another peer-reviewed objective article with research and facts to validate it. My typical first stop when it comes to searching for peer reviewed articles is the National Library of Medicine. This database has tremendously helped me locate reputable peer-reviewed articles related to most topics in medicine. Because this is a governmental database, the sheer volume of research and articles are vast therefore I believe this would be very helpful to my fellow classmates and colleagues because it touches almost all areas of specialty. Highly recommend this database in conjunction with the library resources Walden University provides as this allows for a nice contrast of information available.
