The 2016 presidential election

A common narrative about the 2016 presidential election was that it featured two of the most disliked candidates in history, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The graph shows Clinton’s favourability rating from 2013 to 2016 (black line: favourable; red line: unfavourable).

Why do you think this volatility was rarely discussed? In other words, why was Clinton usually discussed as unlikable, rather than as someone who was sometimes liked and sometimes disliked?
Clinton was not exactly a new political figure; she had been loved and hated on a national stage since 1992. Why do you think people’s opinions about her changed so much between 2013 and 2016?
