The Racial/Cultural Identity Developmental (RCID) Model proposed by Sue and Sue (1998) is not a comprehensive theory of personality, but rather a conceptual framework to aid therapists in understanding development of culturally diverse clients attitudes and behaviors. This model defines five stages of development (Listed Below) that oppressed people experience as they struggle to understand themselves in terms of their own culture, the dominant culture, and the oppressive relationship between the two cultures: conformity, dissonance, resistance and immersion, introspective, and integrative awareness (Sue et al., 2022).
Apply this model to a cultural group selected from one of the following minorities groups
1) Asian- American and Pacific Islander
2) American Indian and Alaskan Native
3) Hispanics/Latino American
4) Arab American
5) Jewish American
Identify the five stages for the minority group selected and at each level of identity, discuss these attitudes/beliefs by using observations, examples, experiences, etc. to describe the integral part of the minority groups identity and how they manifest in their views of a.) the self, b.) others of the same minority, c.) others of another minority, and d.) majority individuals. Utilize the stages to help you in the role of a therapist and better understand your minority client. Use APA style to submit this paper.
