3. Provide your initial response. (20 points)
Suppose that you are an owner of a water tank cleaning service company. Your objective as an owner is
to be as profitable as possible.
In your initial response, discuss the following.
Q1) How (pay method) will you pay your water tank cleaners considering your objective? For
now, let’s just focus on the issue of how (pay method). Let’s NOT focus on the issue of how
much (pay level). And lets just focus on the issue of direct monetary pay. Lets not focus on the
issue of other forms of pay (e.g., benefits and others). For example, you can decide to pay the
water tank cleaners by the hours that they work. Or you can decide to pay them by the height
(i.e., pay the tallest cleaner the most and the shortest cleaner the least). Of course, the second
example may make less sense, but there are numerous ways to pay water tank cleaners.
Q2) Why have you decided to pay the water tank cleaners this way? What is the advantage of
paying water tank cleaners through this method?
Q3) Are there any disadvantages to paying the water tank cleaners through the method that
you have chosen? If there are, what are some ways to mitigate the disadvantages? For
example, if you decide to pay the water tank cleaners by height, only the tall workers can be
motivated and apply for the job.
* Note: For this response, I am NOT asking you to develop a sophisticated pay plan. I am only asking you
to discuss various methods that can be applied in paying for the water tank cleaners and some
advantages and disadvantages of the possible methods.

4. Provide your follow-up response. (10 points)
Reply to at least two of your classmates initial responses. Do NOT just agree or disagree with their
initial responses. Discuss the things that you liked about the pay method that your classmate has chosen.
Also, discuss some advantages, disadvantages, or mitigation plans that your classmate may not have
thought of. (Important note: Your two replies should be different.
