Addiction Discussion

· You started this course eight weeks ago and provided your personal definition of addiction. Revisit your definition below. Would you change your definition of addiction? Why or why not? If you would, state your new definition.

“Addiction can refer to anything that a person cannot live without, for example, being overly reliant on it. It may have started as a one-time occurrence or an idea, and it would not be a great deal to do it sometimes, but it would gradually engulf one’s life. Addictions can develop from taking a substance to dull pain or as a getaway from an individual’s anxieties and troubles, among other things. Substance misuse and addiction have been connected to a wide range of societal concerns and difficulties.”

· Visit the website of the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and review the code of ethics and credentialing process for an addiction counselor. Choose one ethical area that you feel is especially important and one area that you think could be challenging for new or inexperienced addiction counselors.
