Demonstrate your understanding of the four trustworthiness criteria in qualitative research: credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. You will be required to not only demonstrate that you can describe each of the criteria, but also determine the appropriate application of these criteria as prescribed by qualitative research principles. To achieve this, you will develop a comprehensive checklist of the ways to address each of the four criteria to establish the trustworthiness of a potential research study.
To develop your checklist, address each of the following two prompts:
■ List each trustworthiness criterion, stating its name, significance, and function. Clearly explain the importance of the criterion and its purpose in the qualitative research process. (1/2 -1 page per criterion)
■ Describe four to six ways that you will address this criterion in a proposed study. Provide concrete examples of what you will do, and when you would do this. Include an indication of what would occur if the criterion is not thoroughly addressed (that is, threats to the soundness of the study). (1/2 -1 page per criterion)
