Engel, Marcus. (2010) I’m here compassionate communication in patient care. Phillips Press, Orlando, Fl. 1st edition.
Reflection papers are designed to formally consider what you have been learning and to organize it through writing. Reflective writing is the purposeful and recursive contemplation of thoughts, feelings, and happenings that pertain to significant practice experiences. Reflective writing requires one to reflect on a personal experience for the purpose of self-awareness and professional growth. You will be required to read half the book.
The following will help you understand the assignment:
• Papers must be typed, double-spaced, 1” margins, 12 pt. font.
• Title page required, APA format is NOT required-no citation or reference page needed.
• Papers should be between 2-3 pages, excluding title page.
• Writing should use formal language and correct spelling and punctuation.
• Topics reflected upon must include information from the reading I’m here compassionate communication in patient care.
• When writing, consider the following:
o What new things (incite) have you learned?
o How has your learning affected preconceptions or misconceptions you brought with you into class?
o How does your learning affect how you view of ill, hospitalized patients?
o Will what you have learned change your behavior in the future?
o Speak from the heart-raw emotion.
Writing these types of papers encourages you to find what is meaningful to you and thus it adds value to your learning. Do not outline or summarize any part of the book/lecture material but note part of the book that were meaningful to you. By reading your paper, I want to know what the subject means to you and how it affects you personally.
