“School-based Bullying”

 

 

 

we define “School-based Bullying” as persistent and
recurrent psychological harm generated toward someone and perpetrated through aggressive
acts at any school where there is a real or perceived power imbalance leading to
emotional/physical stress in the victim.
In addition, when we look at “Workplace Bullying,” we see that it is identical to school-based
bullying; and is characterized by its persistence and imbalanced power relationship. Where it
differs from school-based bullying is the age of the perpetrators and the victims as well as the
location.
Next, we have “Cyberbullying.” Cyberbullying is a form of relational bullying perpetrated though
electronic mediums and intended to cause emotional harm, and sometimes encourage selfharm, to the victim. It is the newest form of bullying and is often difficult to deal with because of
the anonymity of the perpetrator afforded by the electronic medium.
We also have serial crimes around harassment based on sexual, racial, religious, disability, and
sexual orientations of the victim(s).
In your chapter readings, there are several Criminological theories to explain the “why” of these
crimes. What theory seems most logical to you as a profiler when trying to determine the “why”
and then how to detect the victimizer?
