Analyzing the way that Americans have viewed and portrayed their history is an integral part of being a Historian. This type of scholarship is called historiography. Most of the time, when historians write historiographies, they write about what other historians have written about a particular event. For our project, instead of analyzing the way historians presented a specific historical event, you will be examining the way popular American culture has presented events. You will be choosing a piece of popular culture (film, book, or piece of art) that portrays a historical event or period covered in this course. You write a 3-5 page paper summarizing the source, analyzing its historical accuracy, explain why the creators made the presentation choices they did, and what those choices say about how Americans view their history. All submissions for this project will be run through Turnitin.com to check for plagiarism.
Instructions for the paper will be in the additional materials. There will also be example papers included.
