Disability Policy Research Paper (35%). In this paper, you will provide an in-depth analysis of a disability issue from a critical disability policy lens. This involves analyzing an issue that persists due to limited or ineffective policy. Students can either do an interview-based paper or a literature-based paper. Your paper should critically engage with a disability policy or program, i.e., gaps in social services, transportation, housing, employment, healthcare, mental health, income security, caregiver support, accessibility, medical and psychiatric systems, the criminal legal system, educational systems, and in homes, communities, and movements, and so on. Students are also encouraged to address in their analysis how these are further exacerbated by the effects of COVID-19, the trauma of racism, ableism, and other political, social and or economic factors that happens daily, and the related crisis witnessed and or experienced. The issue identified must be umbrella under a policy; thus evaluate the issue to determine how the policy addresses and whether the provisions are effective.
