Given that racial inequality and aspects like job discrimination, residential segregation, and police brutality has existed in our society since the very beginning of our country, how would sociology explain why it is only in particular time periods e.g. Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement and now the Black Lives Matter movement, that it becomes a social problem on the level that it is one of the dominant social problems in our society?
