Description of the model

Typeset the report in single-column format with 1in margins. Use 11pt font and single spacing. The expected length of the report is around 8-12 pages.
Read the attached paper and complete the following:

  1. Introduction
    • Briefly motivate why the problem is interesting.
    • Present a short summary of the approach and results.
  2. Description of the model
    • Describe the mathematical model used in the paper.
    • Identify the salient features of the model.
    • Discuss some applications (not necessarily engineering applications) for which the model is useful.
  3. Description and proof of the results
    This part will differ depending on the project. If you are not sure on how to organize this section, please contact the instructor.
    • Summarize the main results for that particular model. Your description should be clear, concise, and self-contained.
    • Present a proof outline of the main results.
    • Use examples to illustrate the concepts.
  4. Critique of the main results
    • Explain the salient features of the result and its general implications.
    • Give your opinion about the contribution of the result? As with the other types of reports, this is the most important part of the term project. In your graduate studies it is important to go beyond simply accepting the theory that you learn and start questioning it. What is the main difficulty in deriving the result: conceptual or technical. Why do you think that the result was not discovered earlier? Was it because that foundational theory had not been developed to even pose the question that the result addresses; or there were no interesting applications to motivate the question; or other researchers had attempted to address the question but failed due to conceptual or technical difficulties. Discuss the historical importance of the result to put it in context.
  5. Clarity of presentation
    • Write in a clear and concise manner and avoid grammatical and typographic mistakes.
