The NEA report “To Read Or Not to Read”

Write a TWO paragraph summary of/response to the NEA report “To Read Or Not to Read” and post it in your online journal as entry #1. The entry should be
posted by the start of class time on Thursday, as should all future online journal entries.
Remember that when you summarize, you are trying to fairly and accurately capture the central points of a much longer source. Begin the first paragraph with
a paraphrase of the report’s main point, or thesis. (No introduction.) Then, present a summary of the report’s main findings and arguments. The “Executive
Summary” is itself a summary of the report, so you may find yourself paraphrasing key sentences in that section. But I will expect you to summarize the full
report, and indicate that you are summarizing sections through a clear use of transitional and signal phrases (In the report’s second section, entitled “title,”
the author’s describe a trend towards …) This first paragraph will be a long one, I would say at LEAST 10 sentences, and probably more.In the second
paragraph, write a response to the report. What do you think about this report’s findings and arguments? What significance does the report have for you as a
future teacher or parent or engaged citizen? This paragraph may will be shorter than the first, but it should be at least 5 sentences, and better entries will be
more developed (and longer).
