Part 1. Choose any one of the seven senses (e.g., hearing). Describe three (3) ways that this sense helps you in being successful in three (3) different areas of your life (e.g., work, school, friendship, hobbies, etc.). For each area of your life, you should have 3 tasks in which your chosen sense is helpful.
Part 2. If this sense did not work correctly, discuss three (3) potential negative outcomes that could happen in your present life. Discuss which parts of the brain and which neurotransmitters might be involved and why. Be specific and thorough.
Part 3. Using your three areas of life (e.g., work, hobby, parenting, school, marriage, etc.), design an integrated scenario in which you will apply the concepts of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning:
- Provide a brief narrative of each scenario. For example, for work I might say, “Monday morning I got to work at 8:00…” For hobby I might say, “I bought a new pattern to make a shirt…” and for parenting I might say, “My son doesn’t like to complete his chores…” Each narrative should include Classical Conditioning, one specific type of Operant Conditioning, and Observational Learning.
- Explain how each narrative scenario includes Classical Conditioning by identifying the following:
a. Unconditioned Stimulus
b. Unconditioned Response
c. Conditioned Stimulus
d. Conditioned Response - Explain how each narrative scenario include Operant Conditioning by identifying the following:
a. The Target Behavior
b. The Consequence
c. Whether it is Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, or Negative Punishment
Please note: Each of your three scenarios should use a different type of Operant Conditioning so that you can display a clear understanding of each one. - Explain how each narrative scenario includes Observational Learning by identifying the following:
a. The Model
b. What Was Learned
c. The Motivation
Part 4: The Reflection
Reflect on the changes that you have experienced in coming to college in the three areas of your life listed in Part 1. In a 1-page essay, consider how these things changed for you when you became a college student. Your reflection must include:
• Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation
• Any other theory of motivation (other than intrinsic and extrinsic motivation)
• Any theory of emotion
• Any information on the biology of hunger, eating, or eating disorders.
