SMART Goals and Communicating Up

 

The SMART method helps you define your goals so you can work toward them effectively. When you apply this method to your capital campaign and project goals, you give direction and focus to your campaign. These are the five qualities of SMART goals:
• Specific
• Measurable
• Achievable
• Relevant
• Time-bound
The ultimate goal of the course project is to raise $5 million so that the Liberty Hope Foundation can start construction on a new facility. As the project manager, it is your job to set objectives that will help you track, measure, and report on project progress and success. In preparation for your upcoming Milestone One assignment and course project, use the SMART system of goal setting to establish the project objectives for the capital campaign.

For this activity, you must address the following rubric criteria:
• Identify three to five objectives that will drive the successful completion of the course project’s main goal of raising $5 million.
• For each objective, provide a two- to three-sentence explanation of how each of the five SMART characteristics apply to the objective.
• Describe at least three best practices for communicating with project stakeholders, focusing specifically on communication with upper-level stakeholders and management.
• Analyze how these best practices could be used in your communication with upper-level stakeholders and management over the course of the project.
