In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, some individuals were experiencing symptoms long after their acute infection, even if they only had mild-moderate disease; now known as long-COVID or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19. You are currently in the advisor role for the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, and they ask you to summarize the state of the literature for what clinicians “need to know”, and propose research that addresses the current gaps for the next research funding call. Using a MAXIUM of two pages, double-spaced (excluding cover page and references) , typed (APA 7th edition), address the following:
1. Literature Review
a. How will you evaluate the quality of the literature?
b. How does what you found impact nursing decision making or clinical practice?
c. What did you find that does not influence nursing decision making or clinical practice?
d. Based on your review, what were the current gaps in the literature? What research questions question/problem/thesis addresses these gaps?
2. Summarizing the state of the literature in the context of the research problem
a. Discuss the current literature that has framed your research question (this could include research to date, gaps noted in the current research, or other)
b. How could a nursing lens be used to address this gap, i.e., why is a Registered Nurse well suited to address this gap from a research perspective?
3. Propose a research study that could lead to data which may inform clinical practice
a. Explain your idea using a hypothesis statement
b. Choose a study design (quantitative or qualitative) and justify your choice as to why this is the most appropriate design
c. Discuss what type of ethics review would be required
4. Knowledge translation
a. What methods would you use to translate your findings to clinicians and the public?
