There are four written assignments entitled About Looking due throughout the semester. For each written assignment you are required to look at a
photography book, artist film/video, artist website or exhibition and write a 250 word personal response to the work. You may focus on one image in a series,
respond to the body of work as a whole, or compare and contrast the work of two different photographers. While biographical details can be very
enlightening, I do not want you to only provide biographical details of the artist’s life. I am interested in your personal yet considered response to the artist’s
work.
You must cite at least 3 separate sources (book, magazine article, website, video) using Chicago-Style Citation. Include the title of the book, the ISBN number
of the book, the full title of the website or YouTube links you have used for your research.In addition to your informed opinion of the work, include the artist’s
point of view. Find a quotation. What motivated the photographer to make their work? Why do they think their work is meaningful? Does your reading of the
work and theirs align? If no, why not?
