The purpose of this assignment is to explore your favorite designed space (it need not be chosen from any professional cannon of spaces…you choose!!!), your relationship to it, and to get you thinking about the historical aspects of a site you are familiar with. It is meant to be an experiential and reflective assignment. Focus on writing a narrative piece about a place that is meaningful to you. This assignment is an opportunity for me to learn more about you and you to think more about yourself and your unique perceptions of space. Consider it an opportunity to introduce yourself to me through a place that is important to you. Tell me your story of why.
Upload a photograph of your favorite place and answer the following questions in (1-1/2-2 pages (use the space you need to efficiently convey your narrative), not including photo upload, 10 pt):
1. Describe three reasons why this place matters to you.
2. Describe how you experience or move through this place and how your senses are stimulated. What do you see, smell, feel, taste, hear? Are all of your sensory experiences pleasant?
3. Describe what your place makes you think about. What emotions do you have in your favorite place? What thoughts do you have? Does your favorite place stimulate any memories or associations with other places, people, experiences, or things?
4. What signs of history are visible or not visible? Are they obvious or known to you only because you have a close relationship with this place?
5. How do you feel after visiting your favorite place?
