Enhancing Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Usage and Customizing RSV Presentation for Public Awareness

This morning, multiple cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) were identified in your hospital’s pediatric unit. RSV has the potential to spread very rapidly. The director of infection prevention met with the quality director, your manager, a few hours later. They decided to implement a quality initiative that was used by another hospital system last year when a similar identification of RSV occurred in one of their hospitals. The quality director sent out a notice to all physicians and nurses on the need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) if you are entering or near the pediatric unit, which is one of the most important parts of the quality initiative. Unfortunately, you have observed several healthcare providers not wearing any PPE while caring for RSV patients.
This discussion will help you complete your course project by learning how you can communicate information in your quality improvement report.
In your initial post, address the following:
• What communication strategies would you use to get doctors and nurses to acknowledge that it is essential for them to wear their PPE?
• How would you customize a presentation on RSV to the public, including families of children currently in the pediatric unit?
