Rebecca, an 8 year old, was physically and emotionally abused by her stepmother. Rebecca has dyslexia and her stepmother frequently called Rebecca names, like “stupid, retarded” etc. Her stepmother also pulled her hair as a form of punishment. In addition, Rebecca witnessed domestic violence between her mother and her stepfather, where she observed her stepfather repeatedly grab her mother’s arms to control her, punch her, and make degrading remarks. She is presenting with issues with physical aggression (getting into physical fights) and school refusal. One of the other students recently called her an “idiot” after she misread a word. Rebecca pulled the other child’s hair and punched him in the stomach. The teacher intervened by holding onto Rebecca. Rebecca screamed, “You bitch, you are going to pay for that.”
