Opioid Addiction

The purpose of this paper is to examine a topic or issue of interest to you from within the framework of concepts that you have learned in this class. The goal of this assignment is to help make this course more relevant to you.

A successful paper will briefly:

Use one of the approved topics (students may also suggest their own topic but it must be pre-approved by the professor).
Present a summary of the current situation associated with your topic/issue.
Describe the management challenge associated with your topic from the perspective of healthcare managers or administrators.
Describe at least 2 key health care players / stakeholders involved in this problem area.
Present and evaluate 1 or 2 possible responses for possible resolution to the challenge and discuss how the key players might be affected.
Draw a conclusion about the problem and its potential resolution and discuss related areas for further study (i.e. describe the next steps a manager should take to address the problem).
Use the course material as a starting point but delve deeply into additional literature through citing at least 5-7 peer reviewed journal articles that are relevant to your topic from management, organization science, healthcare management, or health administration journals
Additional citations from books, journals in other topic areas, etc. are acceptable as well but do not replace the peer-reviewed journal articles in the specified topic areas
You will write a 3 to 4 page (double spaced, not including the cover page or references page) paper on a topic of your choice.  You may use either the APA or AMA Citation Formatting style including in-text citation references for your paper. You may select the topic from the list below or you may propose a topic to me via email. It is totally fine if many students in the class select the same topic. Your paper must be submitted in either a PDF file format or MS Word document format.

Following evidence-based prescription guidelines for prescribing opioids can help primary care physicians prevent opioid addiction. However, studies show that primary care physicians have poor adherence to opioid management guidelines. How can healthcare administrators and managers increase primary care physician’s adherence to opioid prescribing guidelines?
