Hello Everyone,

I thought the material for this week's class to be quite informative and pertinent. I agree with the authors who state that “viewing the child with disabilities as a child first means recognizing that they have the same rights, needs, and interests as any other child, regardless of their abilities or challenges” (Cook et al., 2020).

This viewpoint, in my opinion, is crucial because it fosters an optimistic and all-encompassing perception of children with disabilities that recognizes their talents and contributions to society. Additionally, it aids in shielding children from prejudice, mistreatment, and neglect and gives them access to opportunities for social inclusion, health care, and education. In the words of Cook et al. (2020) “children with disabilities are more alike than different from their peers without disabilities.”

My perspective is that each and every child is a one-of-a-kind individual who possesses their own personality, set of preferences, and potential. A responsive educator will always regard a child with a disability in a courteous and positive manner, and will not characterize the child based on the child's impairment. It is of the utmost importance to place an emphasis on what the child is capable of doing and learning, as well as to modify the curriculum in order to accommodate the child's unique objectives and requirements.

As educators, it is our duty to treat disabled students with respect and positivity rather than focusing primarily on their difficulties. Always keeping in mind what these kids are capable of learning and doing, we should modify the curriculum to suit their particular requirements and objectives. We can be able to cultivate a setting in which children of various backgrounds can flourish and realize their full potential if we use this approach, which emphasizes inclusiveness.
