Paper: Sleep Hygiene (Week 6)
Context
Sleep laboratories encounter many patients with stress–related sleep problems. Most sleep laboratories provide a list of sleep hygiene rules to facilitate a good night’s sleep. Some persons who experience insomnia due to multiple stressors may be encourage to implement stimulus control instructions. It may be hard to be objective about sleep habits, but most sleep neurologists recommend a sleep diary to consider an objective way to measure changes in sleep hygiene and sleep outcomes. Description
Using your sleep diary, provide a summary in two to three pages regarding your experiences over the last two weeks in efforts to monitor your sleep. What strategies did you implement, and what struggles did you encounter and/or overcome? How successful were you initiating adaptive sleep hygiene, and what were the results? Do you have insomnia at times, and have you tried stimulus control instructions? What were your experiences and results? What surprised you about changing sleep habits? What behavioral trends will you use in the future? Again, use your sleep diary to help you provide more objective data.
