Practicum Experience Plan
The purpose of a Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) is to outline the activities that will contribute to my professional development and help me concentrate on my specialized knowledge and skills during the practicum. My practicum experiences can contribute significantly to my professional development. The purpose of this assignment is to create a Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) for my PRAC 6675 PMHNP Care Across the Lifespan II practicum experience. The following Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) will discuss one nursing and one counseling theory that I have chosen to guide my clinical practice, as well as individualized learning objectives and a projected timeline for achieving these objectives.
Overview:The Nightingale Theory is the nursing theory that I have chosen to guide my clinical practice. As a registered nurse (RN), I am particularly attached to this theory because it was developed by FlorenceNightingale, the founder of modern nursing and the first nursing theorist (Matthews et al., 2020). To achieve appropriate health goals, the approach emphasizes the importance of maintaining a patient's environment, including clean air, pure water, adequate food supplies, adequate lighting, and personalcleanliness. The environment in which patients live has a significant impact on their overall health and wellness, from their eating and drinking habits to their use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs to the environment in which they live, according to Matthews et al. (2020). Numerous health problems, including mental health problems, could be avoided if people took better care of themselves. As a registered nurse and PMHNP student, I can educate individuals about how this environmental change can result in a better, healthier life. As a patient-care theorist, it is critical to assist individuals in adapting to their environment in unique ways each patient, according to Lor, Backonja, and Lauver (2017). As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), a therapeutic relationship is critical to success. Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Theory is a good counseling theory that correlates well with this component. This theory is concerned with the interpersonal and therapeutic processes that occur when professionals form therapeutic relationships with individuals in need of mental health services. To ensure the therapeutic relationship's success, the three phases of preparation, implementation, andtermination must be met first, according to Happell et al. (2020). These interactions comprise the initial visit. The client is treated with courtesy and respect. In the subsequent phase, the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) and the client spend most of their time together and begintherapeutic communication. The professional learns to provide non-judgmental feedback, and finally, the termination phase (Happell et al., 2020). Regardless of the professional's role, all three stages of this theory must occur for a successful outcome. Before committing to any treatment, the client must trust the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) (Lor, Backonja, & Lauver, 2017). To provide appropriate feedback to the client and to continue treatment, the PMHNP must develop therapeutic communication. And the PMHNP’s ultimate goal in any situation is to terminate or discharge the client when they believe it is appropriate (Lor, Backonja, & Lauver, 2017).
