Week One – Introduction
Hello Professor and Peers, my name is Krystalyn but you can call me Krysty. I’m a 21-year-old female student majoring in Nursing. I was blessed of being born in Miami and living the so-called American Dream. The way I would describe the American dream would primarily be focused on the benefits and opportunities the United States has to offer. The American dream essentially meant to have the rights of our founding fathers. I’m grateful all of our values have not been lost but over the years it’s hard to see that these rights are at risk of being limited or even being permanently overlooked.
The song “Pink Houses” by John Mellencamp talks about hopes and dreams in an ironic way. The song enunciates that although we live in a land of the free, those freedoms are limited and farfetched. Mellencamp intended to get a message across in regard to race and survival in the United States. This song illustrated in 1983 was just a small turning stone of what the United States would see in regard to slowly infringed rights.
