For this assignment, you will choose a specific moment that affected you, your life, changed the way you viewed something or someone, or has some sort of meaning to you. The goal is to figure out who you are or who you have become by putting an event in perspective. It is a way to explain to others the events of our lives — our choices, perspectives, decisions, and responses.
The goal is not to describe your entire life or even a year in your life. In fact, the event should have a short time span. You may explain the context of the incident, but this should not take more than a brief paragraph.
Write your memoir in such a way that readers can understand how you felt through the way you describe what is happening. Your paper should use specific details, vivid descriptions, dialogue, imagery, and be told in first-person.
Your paper will be 4-5 pages, double-spaced (12 pt font), and include a short reflection paragraph that reflects on the memory and explains to the reader why the event or moment was significant, why you chose this event to write about, and what someone/you could learn from it.
