Language is important in communication

How do you describe a location?

Language is important in communication and meaning and how we say something is typically aligned with our preferred visual modalities and thinking processes. Someone who prefers verbal processing may describe in terms of quantitative, measurable terms and someone who prefers visual processing prefers qualitative, descriptive terms. If you were described how to get to a location using data terms like, “Take exit 11B off Interstate 90 toward 28Th Street and take the second left” or do you use visual terms like, “Take the exit with the blue sign and go straight through the first stop light and at the second stop light, get in the turn lane to turn toward the yellow Shell sign.” What is your preference? Give an example of how you give directions.
