Reflective Response to fieldwork (20 points):
Referencing your field notes as evidence, respond to the following three prompts in a six-to-ten-page paper.
1. Ethnography of three classrooms: Describe three classes, which you observed during your visits. These three classes caused an impact (positive or negative) on your philosophy, knowledge, or expectations. (7points)
• Describe the classrooms, the resources available to students within these classrooms, how were the desks organized, how were the lessons relatable to the students (if they were), were the classes geared towards learning of towards testing, what was the teaching styles present in the class?
• Describe the teacher-student interaction in regard to instructions given and followed. Was there any interruption in the class; was there any student that was not following instruction? Why was that? How did the teacher handle the situation? Would you have handled the situation differently? Why?
• Do you think the three classes reflect the nature of the whole school? Why or why not? Do you believe this to be a successful school? Look up the rating for this school based on the NYC DOE, is it successful?
2. Reflecting on Field Observations and the reference to the authors, (8 points)
Describe in detail two things you observed that made an impression on you and caused you to think more deeply about teaching, learning and becoming a teacher. Provide detailed descriiption of what you saw, and then detailed reflection on how you’re thinking and understanding deepened and/or changed as a result of your observation experience. Relate it to the readings you have done for the course. Your observations may have reinforced or may have challenged the theories or notions. Use the course essential questions as a guide to this part.
3. Pose Three Questions (5 points) – What three questions emerged for you after observing in two schools? Why do these questions concern/interest you? Are these two questions part of a bigger conversation?
