Hazards and Mitigation

Suggest at least 4 mitigation strategies for each of the 5 highest-risk priorities in the natural, technological, and human caused categories for the fictional location of Bobsville. At the same time explain whether each mitigation strategy you offer is structural or non-structural. In other words, your final work should contain a total of 60 mitigation strategies – 4 for natural hazard #1, 4 for natural hazard #2, etc… The goal here is to provide a mixture of structural and non-structural mitigation solutions, as is most appropriate to the hazard that you are dealing with; do not just simply repeat the same things over and over again.
You do not have to write full paragraphs, but you must be specific enough to get your point across. In other words, do not just write “Public Education” as a mitigation solution. Public Education on what? (be specific).
Also, be specific in telling what the actual hazard is when you are listing human caused or technological hazards. A hurricane is a hazard unto itself, so no further explanation is necessary, however for human caused and technological hazards, what is the real danger that we are dealing with? Hundreds of people die yearly worldwide by suffocating in their bed pillows while sleeping, but does this make a bed pillow a hazard? Maybe so and maybe not, but for this (possible) human caused hazard that I am using as an example for this assignment, just saying that a pillow is a hazard is insufficient. Tell me why the human caused hazard is actually a hazard – ex: “possible suffocation in a bed pillow” would be what I am looking for as the hazard if it was appropriate for this assignment. Remember, this extra explanation (usually only a few extra words) is only required for human caused and technological hazards you want to use on your lists. As a real example, it is not enough to say that the Cow Chip Festival is a hazard unto itself; what specific hazard at (or dealing with) the festival are you talking about?
You can provide your work in Excel or in MS-Word, but be sure that for each of the Hazards you talk about, you clearly indicate:
– What is the Hazard?
– Is the Hazard Natural, Technological or Human-caused?
– Then indicate your 4 Mitigation Strategies for that Hazard, and for each of the 4 indicate whether each strategy is structural or non-structural
