Read two books, Amy Greenberg, A Wicked War: Polk, Clay, Lincoln, and the 1846 U.S. Invasion of Mexico, and also Naomi Klein, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.
Write a 5 to 7 page paper, typed and doubled spaced, comparing and contrasting the U.S. empire of 1846 with that of the Shock Doctrine. Use the two books, substantiate your argument with scholarly citations, argue what you wish but make your argument logical and consistent with the data. You can take ANY position you like, but make it well written, well argued, and consistent with the facts. Your grade for the module is based on your paper. I do not grade your opinion but rather your capacity to make a logical argument in history based on quality sources. You don’t have to agree with the two books but you must understand them.
