As a health professional, you are tasked with examining factors that impact the health of your community and addressing those that are most pressing. The environment impacts the health of people and the survival of every living thing on the earth, so, naturally, it is a major concern when environmental issues present themselves. In most major cities, a multitude of policies exist that address environmental concerns. In this Competency Assessment, you will research the policies that exist relating to environmental agents and determine how you might improve one.
To complete this Competency Assessment, complete the Assessment Template provided. Within the Assessment Template, you will address the following:
Part 1:
Describe one policy that relates to each environmental agent: air, water, food safety, and waste management.
For each policy described, give an example of how the policy has led to action.
Reference the source where you found the information for each policy.
Part 2:
Out of the four policies that you summarized, select one that you feel could be improved in some way to better address the needs of your community.
Explain the specific health impacts related to the policy selected. Consider dimensions of health such as physical, environmental and occupational health within your response.
Locate two polices at a national and global level that are related to your chosen policy. Explain how they are related by describing similarities and differences. Be sure to describe each policy’s purpose as well.
Considering the information from other related policies in other areas and countries, describe how you would improve upon this policy in your community to make a positive impact on public health and thus positively impact social change.
Include at least three scholarly resources referenced in APA format.
For each of the agents of environmental health listed, locate one policy (including laws and regulations) that is in place nationally or in your state or local area. Summarize the policy and explain how that policy has impacted associated procedures.
