Compare and contrast an alternative computer architecture, with the MIPS architecture. Note: You may use the same
architecture as that of Assignment 2, or a different one, but note that this is expected to be a much more in-depth and detailed comparison now that you
have had some exposure to the ISA, data path, and control unit concepts. Your paper should contain the following sections:
INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW
In this section you will introduce architectures being compared. Summarize and give an overview of the key aspects of your chosen architecture, as well as
the MIPS.
INSTRUCTION SET ARCHITECTURE
In this section compare the Instruction Set Architecture of your chosen architecture, to that of the MIPS, in detail. Include instruction and coding examples
with explanations for key instructions of each type.
Programming Comparison
Reproduce the seconds.asm program written for the MIPS in Assignment #3 using the ISA for your chosen architecture. Include the commented source code
for the alternative architecture as an attachment to your research paper. Don’t forget block and individual line comments. (Note: The code in the program
does not count towards the page count of the research paper). Also in this section discuss similarities and differences between the two programs.
DATAPATH COMPARE / CONTRAST
In this section compare the Data path components, structure, functionality, and development of your chosen architecture, to that of the MIPS, in detail. Also
explain the usage of data path components in the execution of the alternative architecture program in the ISA section.
CONTROL UNIT COMPARE / CONTRAST
In this section compare the Control Unit signals and functionality of your chosen architecture, to that of the MIPS, in detail. Also explain the usage of control
unit signal components in the execution of the alternative architecture program in the ISA section.
CONCLUSIONS
Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of your chosen architecture and that of the MIPS. Determine which architecture is superior and defend your
choice.
The length of this paper should be 8-12 pages in length (excluding the cover page and the works cited page). Please use a professional format (i.e. APA,
MLA, Turabian, IEEE, etc. (Your choice)). You may (and should) use your course textbook as a reference, but you must also have at least three references
aside from your course textbook. Use in-text parenthetical citations and include a works-cited page at the end. Any figures, tables, etc., should be labeled and
referenced in the body of your report.
