An effective reading response will demonstrate that you have thoroughly read and understood the reading (or that you ask questions that reveal careful reading). It should find connections between the reading and the concepts we discuss in class. Personal reactions are also welcome and appreciated.
Be specific and provide details to back up your ideas.
Some questions to consider in your reading response:
You do not need to address all of these (choosing two might be a good way to structure your response), but they may help you get started in thinking about connections to the course:
• Why do cultural anthropologists such as Seth Holmes believe this work is useful and important?
• What research methods is Seth Holmes using?
• What ethical issues/challenges does Seth Holmes face in conducting his research? How does he deal with them? How do you think he should deal with them?
• What do you find important in what you have read so far?
• What questions do you have about Seth Holmes’s experiences? Why do you find those questions important?
