c. Case Study #3: Charlie (Borderline Personality Disorder)
Select a family from one of the videos and consider what might be an appropriate therapeutic modality based on what you have learned in the course.
Write a scholarly, APA formatted paper that addresses the following:
1) Identify the family selected from the case study video(s) and provide brief overview of the family composition and presenting situation.
2) Identify and discuss priority assessment data from the case study as it relates to the family (consider both subjective and objective data). Describe the family composition and dynamics.
a) Summarize the priority data in paragraph format within the paper as well as present this data in a family diagram or genogram.
i) Family diagram or genogram should be provided as an appendix in the paper or as a separate document uploaded with paper submission
b) Utilize appropriate clinical language.
c) Data should be relevant to the topic of the paper; in other words, data presented should be prioritized based on safety within the family or for any specific family member and identifying appropriate treatment targets.
d) Review course content from 629a related to this section as needed.
3) Select an appropriate therapeutic modality from the course for the family based on priority assessment identified. Describe the main concepts and philosophy/theory underlying the chosen therapeutic modality.
a) It can be helpful to use course resources in this section.
4) Explain why the selected therapeutic modality is appropriate for the family based on the priority assessment data identified.
5) Find and summarize two research studies that support the selected therapeutic modality and related to the case study (think about the priority assessment data).
a) The summary for each article should include:
i) the study question,
ii) overview of study method,
iii) relevant outcomes/findings, and
iv) How it relates to other content presented in the paper.
b) Research articles should be peer reviewed and less than 10 years old (if older than 10 years, must provide justification for choice).
6) Develop a recommended, evidence-based treatment plan for the implementation of the therapeutic modality as it pertains to the family in the case study. Include the following components:
a) specific treatment goals linked to the assessment data,
b) the general structure for the therapy sessions,
c) expected timeframe for treatment, and
d) Anticipated plan/next steps for the family once therapy completed.
e) Draw connections between #4, #5, and #6 to support the treatment plan.
