Westward Expansion and Gilded Age, Race, Segregation, and Empire, Progressivism, World War I,
For this assignment, students will respond to the following prompt in 2-3 pages:
What do you believe are three most important themes shaping US history as discussed in the first half of this course and why?
What is the professor looking for?
An argument. An historical theme can include racism, conquest, classism, industrialization, urbanization, among others. You are choosing three and making the argument that they are the most important.
To make that argument, students need to use evidence from the course to support their claims. Evidence can include examples from history that are fully explained.
We all make mistakes sometimes but run a spellcheck. Remember to capitalize proper nouns. Do not refer to authors or historical actors by their first names. Italicize book and movie titles. Make sure there is noun-verb agreement. If you use a pronoun, make sure that the subject that the pronoun refers to is clear.
