United States Incarceration rates have been skyrocketing upwards every decade. In relation to other countries, the US demonstrates a higher incarceration rate during the 1980s than Sweden, Australia, Canada, Spain, and Japans current rates. With the exponentially high populations in US prisons, one significant factor was incredibly interesting, an estimated 66% of people incarcerated identified as being disabled. What is the relationship between disability and incarceration and why is the percentage so high in US prisons?
