Protecting the weak and exploited

Examined the decisions and actions of statesman who have been
involved in the founding of a nation and leading it through crisis and disunity. This paper will
require you to identify and discuss the key statesmanship principles needed to reform a nation.
The paper consists of 3 parts (below) plus an introduction and references sections. To make it
easier for readers to follow your thinking, please discuss the topics in the order presented below.
Thank you.
• 6–8 pages of content, double-spaced
• Current APA format
• Must include citations from all readings, videos, and presentations for the assigned Module:
Week plus additional, relevant scholarly articles (published within the last five years) you
select—for a total of 12–15 sources.

Please discuss the following:
• Part 1: A summarization of biblical principles of government, leadership, and statesmanship
relevant to reforming a nation and fighting injustice (1–2 pages). In presenting all of this,
keep in mind the following:
o Statecraft: While statesmanship is certainly about personal leadership skills, moral
attributes, and vision, it must also include an understanding of how government
actually (i.e., statecraft). There are plenty of nice, honorable people who care for
others but who do not possess an understanding of the inter- and intra-workings of
government—e.g., the required skills and organizational knowledge of how bow
government works. Which are especially needed for a government designed to
fight injustice, prevent exploitation, and limit tyranny, particularly in reforming a
nation.
o Change Management: Include a conversation about the principles of change
management statesman needs to know. The optional class readings (Kotter, Sinek,
Pink) will be really helpful to that end.
o Reforming a Nation: Your discussion must also focus on those statesmanship
principles needed specifically for reforming a nation. As you will notice from the
course, we discuss statesmanship in a variety of contexts. It could be that different
statesmanship principles are needed for these different contexts.
Therefore, make sure you are thinking specifically about the challenges of creating a
nation based upon justice and liberty for this assignment.

• Part 2: An application of those principles to the decisions, actions, and reform outcomes of:
• William Wilberforce,
• Frederick Douglass,
• Susan B. Anthony, and
• Martin Luther King, Jr. (2–4 pages).
In Part 2, remember to provide specific evidence e.g., decisions made, actions taken, and
especially lasting outcomes) to explain how these leaders demonstrated the various attributes
and principles discussed in Part 1.

• Part 3: Application of the statesmanship principles discussed in Parts 1 and 2 to one
germane issue in a contemporary context (1-2 pages). Contemporary context means a social
issue or public policy, not a person.
• As to Part 3 application, consider focusing on a ‘de-valued’ group or topic that you have
some passion for and experience with—that will make it more real, practical, and
personal for you.
• In essence, what can we learn from them that could help address a social issue or
challenge of important to you?
Synthesize the above with a Biblical model of government and statesmanship.
Be certain to learn more and then share your insights regarding Statecraft, including how the
persons we study this week maximized the resources of government to actually get things done.
