Why should we fund P.E. in school?
Physical Education can often be pushed aside in the order of importance when it comes to school funding, from elementary school up through high school and maybe even college. More and more, STEM courses, literature, and the arts take center stage. As impressive as it can be for schools to showcase excellence in these areas, we know that P.E. is important because of the physical health benefits of exercise.
In this class, however, you learned other reasons why P.E. can be important, which can tie into physical health (i.e. Think of phenomenology and the body, Meaningful Narratives, Movement as work and movement as play, etc.). You do not need to address all of these concepts but consider them as you develop an argument to keep the investment (perhaps expansion?) in P.E. in school. Using arguments derived from course readings, as well as outside research, present a three-paragraph analysis (#1Introduction/thesis, #2 argument/evidence, and #3 counterargument/response) that takes a position on the question, why should we fund P.E. in school.
