Concepts of socialization and social interaction

Apply the concepts of socialization and social
interaction to the movie Pleasantville. A great deal of what to cover in class this
semester deals with the ways that society shapes our (and other people’s)
understanding and perspectives of the social world. With this in mind, please watch the
movie Pleasantville (available for free via Amazon Prime) and answer the following
questions:
1. How does the film reflect the idea that socialization functions as a mechanism of
social control? Please provide a general assessment and defend your response
with a minimum of two supportive examples from the movie.
2. Social interaction is how people communicate and form social bonds because it
facilitates how and why they give meaning to their actions, behaviors, ideologies,
and beliefs. How does the film depict the ways that social interaction is the basis
for how people give meaning to their actions, behaviors, ideologies, and beliefs?
Please provide a general assessment and defend your response with a minimum
of two supportive examples from the movie.
3. How and why can these two sociological concepts (socialization and social
interaction) also help explain the acts of resistance seen in the movie
Pleasantville? Please provide a general assessment and defend your response
with a minimum of two supportive examples from the movie.
