Personal Problems vs. Public Issues

 

 

In The Sociological Imagination, C Wright Mills described Sociology as the intersection of biography and history and defined the “sociological imagination” as the ability to see the connections between individual experiences (biography) and the larger socio-historica context of those experiences (history).
He asks the reader to understand individual problems as being rooted in broader social or public issues.
He says that many individual problems are rooted in social issues. For example”
1. How do social factors influence layoff rates and personal experiences of individuals?
