Service Learning

 

 

• 1. Summary of the past two weeks
o Enter your name, phone number, dates of service learning work, service learning location, title and the type of work that you are performing, and the supervisor’s email and phone number.
• 2. Outline your hours for the week, noting time spent in each category (some of these may be 0 hours, some may be partial hours) using quarter hour increments (.25, .5, .75). Categories include:
o Direct service to client(s) (e.g., mentoring, psychoeducation, behavior modifications, counseling, group facilitation, teaching, training, interviewing, etc.)
o Indirect service (e.g., administration, preparing for direct service, planning an event, researching, etc).
• 3. Provide a running total of all direct service hours and overall hours for all weeks in the service learning.
o This should be a short bullet point.

• 4. List and explain at least three highlights from the past two weeks.
• 5. List and explain at least three things that you learned in the last two weeks.
• 6. List and explain three strengths that you exhibited in the last two weeks.
• 7. List and explain three weaknesses that you discovered and include specifics on how you will improve in those areas.
o Include specific tasks that you will complete and completion dates.
 For example: On Monday at 5:00 pm I will prepare a list of questions to ask to my supervisor. I will include at least three questions specific to the ethical issue of confidentiality. I will also ask for my supervisor’s advice regarding the issue at hand in our upcoming meeting, on Tuesday at 8:00 am.
• 8. God at Work
o Identify and explain at least 2 ways in which you saw God at work during your service learning at your site.
o List three specific Scriptures and/or characters from the Bible that apply to the service rendered at your practicum. Include a statement of relevance to the weeks’ service for each scripture.
• 9. Ethical and Cultural Issues
o Identify and explain at least one ethical issue that you faced and how you will/did handle it.
 Ethical issues could include differing values, differing belief systems and practices, confidentiality, competency, etc.
 Describe what you did to address the issue(s) in thorough detail or create steps you will take to address the issue(s) in the near future, including specific times, dates, and details.
 Use the American Psychology Association (APA)Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (open in a new window) and/or the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) Code of Ethics (open in a new window) to support your response.
 Cite the ethical codes that you are referencing
 Example: 3.09 Cooperation with other Professionals: APA Code of Ethics and ES1-700 Collegiality in Christian Counseling – A Call to Relationship: AACC Code of ethics.
o Identify at least one cultural issue that you faced and how you will/did handle it. Cultural issues could include differing values, differing belief systems and practices, etc.
 Describe what you did to address the issue(s) in thorough detail or create steps you will take to address the issue(s) in the near future, including specific times, dates, and details.
• 10. Overall Reflection and Feedback
o Summarize at least three feedback items given by your instructor on your last report. You may copy/paste the feedback and then expound.
 Note: This requirement is designed to ensure the client’s protection and highest level of care by making sure that you are reading the feedback you receive for improvement in future sessions.
o Describe any problems with your placement or note “none”. Describe any action or follow up that you need from your instructor.
o Identify four examples of how you were shaped personally by your service learning.
 These examples could include changes in your heart, mind, and/or relationship skills.
o Identify four examples of how you were shaped professionally by the service learning.
 Refer to your skills and/or understanding related to the professional setting, the population, and personal desire (or lack thereof) to work in such a setting.
o Identify four things you would do differently if you had the opportunity to repeat the service learning.
o Identify at least four reasons why you would or would not recommend your setting to another student.
