MUS 3 Film Prompt Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony (2002)
Prompt
In Amandla, we see many depictions of music being used in the struggle against the apartheidera government of South Africa. Drawing on the film, please give three distinct and different examples of how music was being used to push back against apartheid. Describe each example:
where is it happening, through what media, for what audience(s), what is the context for the music, who was performing and/or creating it? Why do you think music from the apartheid era is still being recorded in studies and performed on concert stages in South Africa?
Short, written film responses will allow you to showcase your ability to synthesize information
